E-commerce Site Rollout

I project managed the rollout of a direct-to-consumer, e-commerce business for Hachette Book Group, the nation’s fourth largest book publisher. This 18-month project meant lots of cross-functional coordination with teams in marketing, sales, demand planning, supply chain, customer service, operations, IT, and finance.

I started with a design sprint. Over a two-day working session, a team of colleagues sketched out what we all thought a great online buying experience would look like. We reviewed competitor examples and also looked at e-commerce businesses outside of book publishing.

Then, we anonymously reviewed all sketches, discussed their various elements, and voted on aspects we loved. This approach empowered the full team to be frank with their feedback and built consensus. The results led to a prototype presented to the c-suite which eventually became the e-commerce buying experience on Hachette’s website.

E-commerce is the fastest growing business at Hachette Book Group as of 2024
